What to Expect During the Appointment

There is no reason to be nervous about this exam — it is a public-health screening, not a test you can fail on the basis of a treatable condition. After reviewing your identification and vaccination history, Dr. Weiss carries out the physical assessment USCIS specifies, covering general health, vision and hearing, heart and lungs, abdomen, skin and neurological function. We handle the blood draw, urine collection and tuberculosis screening in-house during the same visit, so Garfield patients are not sent elsewhere for lab work. What You'll Need to Bring

It cannot be carried across to a later filing, so if an application is denied or withdrawn, a fresh medical exam is required. (Forms signed before November 1, 2023 keep the older two-year window.) What a Mistake on Form I-693 Actually Costs

Garfield sits minutes from our office, but proximity is not the reason to choose a civil surgeon. In our experience, very few I-693s are sent back for medical reasons. They are rejected because a signature is missing, the dates do not line up, the tuberculosis classification is incomplete, the vaccination section is blank, a required test for the applicant's age was never run, a positive TB screen arrived without the required chest x-ray, the form was a superseded edition, or the sealed envelope had been opened. Each of those triggers a Request for Evidence, and each one adds months while you go back to the civil surgeon. Under the policy in force since June 2025 a completed form is tied to the single application it was filed with, so if that case fails you buy the exam again from scratch.
